Safety first

Activities at Gowanbank are governed by SU Scotland’s Safety Management System which responds to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Associated Regulations, and in particular the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 2004.

Whilst we do all that we can to manage this risk there is still potential for injury. We ask all participants to be aware of this. We ask for medical information for participants to ensure we support those with particular needs.

See our: Risk Management Summary

Gowanbank has been granted a licence by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) to provide adventurous activities for young people. Our three centres at Alltnacriche, Gowanbank and Lendrick Muir are managed by members of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres and registered with a number of local authorities as accredited providers. Confirmation of the licence contents can be checked online at AALA.

First Aid

We hope your stay is safe, but if first aid is required appropriate staff have undergone basic first aid training. If illness or injury requires medical attention, there is a local GP surgery in Darvel, a local out of hours service and a hospital in Kilmarnock.

Full liability insurances are held by SU Scotland. We do not cover cancellation or loss of personal property, and would encourage participants to ensure they are appropriately insured.

"This was our first set of activity days with our school. The staff at Gowanbank couldn’t have worked harder to aim to meet the varying needs of our pupils and be to as adaptable and as flexible as they were during our visit. Thanks so much to everyone - we hope to be back!!"
