Gowanbank is one of SU Scotland’s three residential activity centres. People of all ages come to stay and the beauty of the centre is its flexibility. You can book the centre as a base to explore the area. You can plan your own activities, conference or retreat and take time to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful area.
About Gowanbank – a Christian Residential Activity and Conference Centre
Gowanbank was donated to SU Scotland in 2017 to use as a residential centre. The building is currently being converted to provide an all year round centre to deliver SU HOLIDAYS , and residential activities for school groups. As well as delivering holidays, part of the vision is for training, development and discipleship of leaders through our own programme, or a venue for others to use.
FIND US and come and visit – we’d love to get to know you and our group!
Activities at Gowanbank are governed by SU Scotland’s Safety Management System which responds to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Associated Regulations. At this point the activities undertaken are outwith the scope of the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 2004, so we are not registered with AALS. All activities have an element of risk. Whilst we do all that we can to manage this risk there is still potential for injury. We ask all participants to be aware of this. We ask for medical information for participants to ensure we support those with particular needs.
We hope your stay is safe, but if first aid is required appropriate staff have undergone basic first aid training, If illness or injury requires medical attention, there is a local GP surgery in Darvel, a local out of hours service and a hospital in Kilmarnock.
Full liability insurances are held by SU Scotland. We do not cover cancellation or loss of personal property, and would encourage participants to ensure they are appropriately insured.
About SU Scotland
Our vision is to see the children and young people of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus.
As a Christian charity we are part of the worldwide family of Scripture Union movements that began nearly 150 years ago and now operates in over 120 countries across the world. In Scotland around 2,000 volunteers are supported by over 100 staff and associate workers. We work in partnership with local churches wherever we can, training, equipping, and working with children and young people. Wherever you find children and young people – in schools, on holiday, in local communities or online – you’ll find us providing opportunities to explore the Bible and respond to the significance of Jesus whilst making friends and having fun.
Come for the weekend, or anytime for that matter!

Sign up for an SU Holiday
During the school holidays, Gowanbank will be home to some SU HOLIDAYS. Drama, music and comedy are all on the agenda at different events lined up for summer and the autumn. And there will be plenty more announcements soon.
Come for a school week in term-time!
Gowanbank may be the new kid on the block, but SU Scotland has plenty of relevant experience delivering CLASSROOM OUTDOORS. These residential events for primary and secondary schools are tailored to Curriculum for Excellence and could be just what your pupils need. School residentials are under development and please get in touch if you would like to register an interest.
